The accession consists of two filmstrips entitled, "A Visit to Scripps Institution of Oceanography" produced by San Diego City Schools in cooperation with the Scripps Institution of Oceanography and dated June 1965. The first filmstrip is subtitled, Part I: Aquarium-Museum. The second filmstrip is subtitled, Part II: Scripps Institution of Oceanography. The accession also includes two teacher's guides written to accompany the filmstrips which include general information and a frame-by-frame description of the filmstrip which includes text for narration. The filmstrips provide a comprehensive overview of the facilities and activities carried on at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography. The filmstrips were planned and written by B. Sy Silver, Serafino L. Ciuliani and J. Fred Wilson of the San Diego City Schools and Jeffery Dean Frautschy and Donald W. Wilkie of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography. It was produced by the Instructional Aids Department, Curriculum Services Division, San Diego City Schools. Photography was provided by B. Sy Silver and Dean Jones of San Diego City School and Alan C. Jones, James E. Rupert, Carr C. Tuthill and Donald W. Wilkie of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography. The filmstrips include images of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, its facilities and buildings, including the Thomas Wayland Vaughan Aquarium Museum. It also includes images of Scripps staff at work including Jeffery Dean Frautschy and Carr C. Tuthill. The filmstrip includes images of scuba diving, seining, shipboard operations, and data gathering activities.
